Charleston Shuts Out Concord in Home Opener

CHARLESTON, WV – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles (1-1, 1-1 MEC) opened up their home schedule with a 27-0 shutout against Concord University (0-2, 0-2 MEC) on Thursday night.

Charleston Game Leaders: Offense
-Tevion Cappe led Charleston with 85 yards on the ground while Mason Olszewski tallied 76 in the win.
-Johnny Delahoussaey tabbed 3 receptions for 73 yards.
 
Charleston Game Leaders: Defense
-John Cominsky led the Golden Eagles with 11 tackles, and four tackles for loss.
-Jalen Nelson tallied 9 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, with two sacks.

Concord Game Leaders: Offense
-Jamal Petty, Nick Loftin, and Camari Murray led Concord with 11 yards each. Jake Gibson led the Mountain Lions in the air with 42 passing yards.
 
Concord Game Leaders: Offense
-Dominic Wilson led Concord with 19 tackles.
-Zack Malone was in second with 12 tackles and one tackle for loss.

How it Happened
-Charleston found the end zone first just two minutes into the first quarter when, Mason Olszewski found Adam Lindamood on a 4-yard pass. Lindamood took the ball the rest of the way for his first collegiate touchdown.
-With eight minutes to go in the first quarter Tevion Cappe went on an 11-yard run to the end zone to bring the score to 13-0.
-Half way through the second quarter Olszewski kept the ball for a 6-yard touchdown run for the Golden Eagles.
-With eight minutes to go in the final quarter Olszewski went on a 9 y-ard run to bring the score to 27-0 and close the door on Concord.
-Charleston went on to win 27-0, making this the fifth time the Golden Eagles have pitched a shutout, and the third time under head coach, Pat Kirkland

-Charleston will travel to West Liberty on Thursday September 14 for a 7:00 p.m. kick off.
