How it Happened
UC outscored the Bobcats by 12, 16-4, in the third quarter despite trailing the hosts by a single point going into halftime, 24-23. The Golden Eagles scored the first 12 points to start the second half before the Bobcats finally scored their first points of the quarter with just 1:08 left to play in the 10-minute third. By that time Charleston had built a 35-26 lead before finishing the quarter up 11, 39-28, heading to the final frame.
After only scoring four points in the third, Wesleyan's offense came alive in the fourth to score 27 points and put a scare into the Golden Eagles, looking to stop a 4-game losing streak in conference play. Holding a 50-42 advantage with just over four minutes to play, the Golden Eagles saw the hosts pull within one, 51-50, after going on an 8-1 run with the game under two minutes to play. Charleston proved to be clutch from the free throw line, going 10-for-10 down the stretch to earn a much need Mountain East road victory.
UC was led by Anna Hayton's 13 points while Madison Jones chipped in 10 points off the Golden Eagle bench. Wesleyan's Mari Stewart led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Bobcats in defeat.
