NASHVILLE – University of Charleston men's volleyball makes their 2018 season debut Friday morning in the Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge.
NCAA men's volleyball is coming to Nashville for the first time in the city's history. The inaugural Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge presented by MotorMVB will feature 10 NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball teams competing in 12 matches on Jan. 12-14 at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena.
The Golden Eagles will kick off the first-time event with a match against Limestone University at 11 a.m. EST (10 a.m. CST) Friday morning. UC will return to the court Saturday morning at 11 a.m. EST (10 a.m. CST) against Erskine before making the trip back to Charleston in preparation for their home debut on Saturday, January 20
th against North Greenville University. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. EST in the Wehrle Innovation Center.
Charleston returns 11 players from the 2017 12-win season, six of which are seniors who formed the foundation of the Golden Eagle program that started just four seasons ago. UC will look to the leadership from Conner Brandland, Darrin DePellegrini, Jonathan Corpeno, Ryan Santos, Rajahl Moxey and Anthony Rivera as they continue to improve on their record setting 2017 season. Entering their third year in the EIVA, Charleston is still searching for their first win in conference play and will look to do so on Friday, February 9
th as they host Princeton University to begin the EIVA schedule.
UC will be led by Dr. Bren Stevens as she returns to the sideline after serving as the Golden Eagles women's volleyball coach for 19 seasons before transitioning to the Director of Athletics in 2012. Joining Stevens is current UC women's coach Jenna Brown along with assistant coaches Jo'Lon Clark and Dan Reilly.
