INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The University of Charleston women's basketball team (8-9, 5-7 MEC) fell 71-66 to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets (7-11, 7-5 MEC) on Saturday evening in the Walker Convocation Center.

How it Happened
After a closely played first half the Yellow Jackets held a slim three-point lead of 28-25 over the Golden Eagles. The game continued to remain close as the Yellow Jackets proceeded to hold a tight lead of 54-49 over the Golden Eagles after the third quarter. The Golden Eagles attempted to break away from the Jackets with a 63-62 lead with 3:02 left to play in the game. Despite the offensive effort for a push in the last quarter from UC, WVSU claimed the win over the Golden Eagles leading for 84.5 percent of the game.
Forcing seven turnovers in the second half of the game, Charleston made things exciting as they inched their way up to a one-point lead. UC couldn't hold on to the Yellow Jackets as they made 44.8 percent of field goals in the second half compared to UC's 34.3 percent.
