CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston women's basketball team (7-5, 4-3 MEC) fell 78-72 to the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals (5-8, 4-3 MEC) on Thursday evening in the Wehrle Innovation Center Arena.

How it Happened
-Coming out of the gate Charleston took an early 9-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
-With just over one minute to play in the first Charleston held a 17-10 lead.
-The Cardinals clawed their way back to end the first quarter down 17-12.
-In the first two plays of the second half a pair of threes by Monica Burns gave Wheeling the 18-17 lead.
-A pair of free throws by Ambrea Williams gave Charleston the lead (21-20), but Burns would sink one to give the lead back to the Cardinals.
-The Cardinals led the Golden Eagles 31-18 to head into the half with a 43-35 lead over Charleston.
-Charleston would go on a 9-2 run in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the score to 44-45.
-At the end of the third quarter the Cardinals led with Golden Eagles 56-52.
-The Cardinals gained 61-52 lead before sophomore guard Octavia Loll hit a three to bring the Golden Eagles within six (61-55).
-With just over five minutes to play, Loll hit a three to bring the Golden Eagles within four (60-64).
-The Golden Eagles fought their way back to a 63-66 score when Brooklyn Pannell hit a floater to put the Charleston within one (66-65). A pair of free throws by Anna Hayton gave the Golden Eagles their first lead since the first quarter of play (67-66).
-Wheeling Jesuit too back the lead with just over two minutes to play in regulation. The Cardinals took a four-point lead after the three-point play finish by Wheeling's Chenelle Moore.
-Hayton would go one-for-two from the foul line to put the Golden Eagles within three with 48 seconds to play.
-With a pair of free throws Wheeling would take the 75-70 lead with just over 30 seconds to play.
-Charleston would go on to fall to Wheeling Jesuit 78-72.
