How it Happened
Charleston began the afternoon looking very shaky, giving up 10 very quick points to a quick-striking Wise offense. The UVA Wise offense connected quickly on a run/pass combination leading to an early touchdown pass for the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers would score again in the first quarter, but the Golden Eagle defense held the Cavaliers to a field goal this time. The Golden Eagles were unable to produce much offense in the first quarter but would strike back aggressively in the second.

The second quarter was a complete turnaround from the first quarter for UC. The Golden Eagles connected on a field goal attempt from K. Weiman to put the Golden Eagles on the board. The next Charleston drive resulted in the first touchdown by the legs of Jimmy Wheeler, the Golden Eagles leading rusher on the day. Wheeler scampered for a 40 yard touchdown run with 12:45 left in the half. The next touchdown came from the redshirt senior Mason Olszewski. He pinpointed a pass to Michael Strachan who made an outstanding catch to secure a touchdown for the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter, giving themselves a 17-10 lead over the Cavaliers heading into the locker room.

In the third quarter the Golden Eagle offense delivered the dagger to secure the game for UC. The second half started with a touchdown thrown to Gerron Fryer. Olszeswski threw an 81-yard bomb to Fryer on the first play of the second half. This touchdown gave the Golden Eagles a 24-10 lead, which would prove to the finishing blow that they needed. The Golden Eagle defense was strong during the game, only allowing 10 points, 231 total yards of offense and adding 2 interceptions. The offense produced 161 rushing yards and 194 passing yards in the contest. This victory marked the end of a three-game losing streak for the Golden Eagles.
