CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (12-15, 7-4) lost in a non-conference match against Kentucky State University (19-19) in four sets on Tuesday night. This marked the second defeat in a row for the Golden Eagles.

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles were eager to avenge their Saturday defeat at the hand of Urbana University. They came out looking strong as usual in the first set. The play between the two teams was even until the Golden Eagles won 11 of the last 10 points to win by a score of 25-13. The Golden Eagles won behind a strong offense and solid defensive play. Carly Granger led the team with 6 kills with Janeese Vervelde and Tori Clark adding 5 kills each.
With a 1-0 lead heading into the second set the Golden Eagles began play looking superb. They had a 4-1 lead when Kentucky State came back to lead the set 7-4. Play went back and forth with no team able to garner much momentum. The Golden Eagle looked to close the set twice but were unable to finish. KSU would win the set by a score of 27-25 after a heated exchange of points late. Carly Granger ended with 6 more kills.
Tied at 1 heading into set number 3, play continued to be even. The two evenly matched squads exchanged points with no team getting the edge. This continued until the end of the set when KSU defeated the Golden Eagles after coming back from a 24-22 deficit. KSU won by a score of 27-25 for the second set in a row. Carly Granger added 6 more kills in the losing effort.
With their backs on the wall the Golden Eagles looked to come back from the 2-1 deficit in the fourth set. The KSU defense proved to be too much for the Golden Eagle attack. Attack after attack was sent to the KSU side but the team still struggled to score. As the set came to an end the Golden Eagles gave one last push but were unable to comeback from the 6-point deficit that they faced. The Thorobreds of Kentucky State defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets. This marked the second straight loss for the Golden Eagles. Tori Clark had 6 kills in the set.
