How It Happened
The Golden Eagles breezed to a win on Friday night, beating the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19). The first set went fairly quickly, as UC's senior Carly Granger gave the Golden Eagles six kills, pushing UC to a 25-20 first set win.
The second set of play was a closer battle between the two side, but Charleston edged Wesleyan 26-24 for the win. UC secured this set through junior Jour'Ney Powell leading the way, giving Charleston the much-needed points at the end of the set, edging the Bobcats.
Charleston headed into the second set 2-0, needing to win the set to win the whole match. The Golden Eagles stayed in the game through Bobcat service errors in the first three points, but senior Tori Clark got UC their first kill of the set, giving Charleston the upper hand. Junior Janeese Vervelde's late set blocks helped UC secure not only the set, but the game, winning 3-0.
