CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (14-16, 14-5 MEC) defeated the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia Wise (2-14) on Friday in 3 sets. Chloe Massaro was recognized in the match for earning her 2,000th assist. The Golden Eagles battled Early with the Cavaliers as play was even during the first 10 points. The Golden Eagles rallied, pulled away and won by a score of 25-15. Janeese Vervelde and Carly Granger led UC with 6 kills each.
The Golden Eagles dominated in the second set as well, winning by a score of 25-15 for a second straight set. UC never looked challenged in the second set as they rolled to an easy victory. Carly Granger added 5 kills. Senior Chloe Massaro earned her 2,000th career assist and was recognized during the game. The Golden Eagles won the set on an attack error by Wise's Madelyn Gibson.
The Golden Eagles were challenged in the third set and were defeated after tough play from the Cavaliers. They lost by a score of 25-22.
In the fourth set marked another victory for the Golden Eagles. They closed it out with excellent team play and scrappy defense. The Golden Eagle attack proved to be too much for the Cavaliers as UC rolled to a 26-16 victory. Tori Clark and Janeese Vervelde led UC with 4 kills each as UC finally bounced back from their previous home defeat to West Virginia State.
