Golden Eagles Continue MEC Winning Streak

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Basketball team kicked off a Saturday double header by defeating the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia Wise by a score of 72-55. With the win the Golden Eagles moved their conference win streak to three straight games.

How it Happened
The red-hot Golden Eagles stayed that way on Saturday afternoon. The women led by as many as 7 to begin the game. The Wise offense was given fits against the high-pressure full court press run by the Golden Eagles. UC ended the quarter with 18 points and a 64% FG shooting percentage. 
 
Heading into the second quarter with a 4-point lead, UC never let off gas. UC continued utilizing the press to their advantage, holding Wise to only 13 points in the quarter. Fouls proved to be detrimental to Wise as the Golden Eagles scored over half their points in the quarter by way of free throws. At half UC led by a score of 33-27. 
 
After halftime, the Golden Eagles continued applying pressure via a press. UC never lost a lead after the first quarter and concluded the game on top after dominating in the fourth quarter. Dionna Sanders ended the game with a season high 13 points.
