Golden Eagles Close 2018 with Victory Over Tigers

Salem, W.Va.  The Golden Eagles improved to 10-1 on the season in their final game of 2018 with a 65-59 win over the Salem University Tigers. Senior forward Dionna Sanders notched a season high 20 points in the win.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles shot a 40 percent from the field in the first half, led by Raziyah Farrington who tallied 13 points. The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game two minutes into the first quarter. The teams went through four lead changes before the Golden Eagles closed out the quarter up three on the Tigers.
 
A hard fought second quarter from both teams kept the score close, but the Golden Eagles held on to their lead to head into the break up 27-23. Salem kept the score close, never trailing by double digits, but Charleston maintained their lead through the third quarter to head into the final period up 46-42.
 
Salem brough the game within one point with seven minutes to play, with a three-pointer by Villalobos, but Charleston pulled away again. The Golden Eagles were led in the second half by a stellar 15-point performance in the paint by Sanders, who notched her first double-double of the season.
 
Charleston took a 65-59 victory Salem.
 
 
Charleston Individual Leaders
-Raziyah Farrington led both teams with 23 points and eight rebounds
-Dionna Sanders notched a double-double and season high 20 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Salem Individual Leaders
-Daniela Q Villalobos tallied 12 points in the loss, with Endia Jones just behind with 10 points.
