How it Happened
The Golden Eagles looked to continue their unbeaten streak in the MEC. UC got off to a slow start against the Falcons, giving up a few three-pointers to begin the game. However, the Golden Eagles were able to pick up the pace of the game and pressure the Falcons with Becky Burke's full court press. The Golden Eagles missed some opportunities to produce more points early but still ended the quarter with a narrow 15-14 lead. Raziyah Farrington led UC in the quarter with 10 points.
The second quarter was another dogfight for both teams. UC struggled to score points close to the basket early in the first quarter, but the second quarter was a different story. The team scored 10 points in the paint and shot 48% in the quarter. The leading scorer for UC in the second quarter was Brooklyn Pannell who had 15 points. She ended the quarter by completing a three-point play to put the Golden Eagles up by a score of 36-27.
Heading into the third quarter with a solid lead, UC didn't let off the gas. They scored 19 points in the third quarter and ended with a 55-37 lead. The Golden Eagles were able to shoot almost 60% from the floor in the third quarter. The leading scorer in the quarter was Dionna Sanders with 7 points.
With an 18-point lead entering the final period, UC looked to close out the game with a victory. They were never able to dominate during the quarter, but they got the job done. The Falcons were able to come within 6 toward the end of the game, but the lead was too large. UC would go on to win the game after playing tough defense late in the game. Raziyah Farrington dribbled out the clock to end the game with the Golden Eagles leading 71-61. The win extended the winning streak of the team to 6.
