CHARLESTON, WV – The Golden Eagles came up short in their first game of their spring tournament falling to Kutztown University 2-4, but took a 5-4 victory against the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles.

How it Happened
GAME 1:
Kutztown took an early two run lead as Kristin Kaleyic tagged a triple to right center field sending Jenna Lipowski and Tamara Jennings home. Neither team was able to send a run home until the fifth inning when Jennings singled up the middle to send two runs home for the 4-0 Kutztown lead.
The UC offense got going in the seventh inning with a double by Shelby Ume to bring home Karli Pinkerton on an error by the second baseman. Danielle Norton followed with a single to center field to bring Ume home. The Golden Eagles could not get any runners home and fell to the Golden Bears 2-4.
GAME 2:
Kendall Marshall was able to reach first on an error by the Crookston shortstop allowing Karli Pinkerton to score the first run for Charleston. Shelby Ume singled to push A.J. Martin home for Charleston giving them the 2-0 lead in the top of the third. J. Boardman was walked allowing UMC to score their first run of the game.
In the top of the fourth Siarra Harrington hit her second homerun of the season to give UC the 3-1 lead. The fifth and sixth innings were run-free for both teams. In the top of the seventh Shelby Ume doubled to bring Haleigh Christopher home for Charleston. Emily Dutton hit a SAC fly for the Golden Eagles to bring home Ume for UC's final run of the game.
Crookston brought in a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to bring the final score to 5-4 in favor of Charleston.
Up Next
The Golden Eagles will take on Slippery Rock at 9:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. matchup against Edinboro.
