Charleston Splits with Cardinals on the Road

CHARLESTON, WV – Charleston Softball improved to 2-6 in conference play after splitting with the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Monday afternoon.

GAME 2: Charleston 4, Cardinals 2

How it Happened 
GAME 1: 
The Golden Eagles got on the board first with a single by Siarra Harrington to send Rachel Rusch home for the 1-0 lead in the top of the second. A.J. Martin singled to left field  sending Harrington home. The Cardinals answered in the bottom of the second after Alaina York reached on a fielder's choice allowing Molly Welsh to score. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning Grimes singled to left center sending Holstein home to tie the game up for the Cardinals. The cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning scored on a throwing error by the UC shortstop to take the win in game one 3-2.  

GAME 2: 
The Golden Eagles had a big second inning scoring all four runs. A single to right field by Bailey Gogia sent Kendall Marshal and Danielle Norton home to give UC the 2-0 lead. An error by the Cardinal second baseman allowed Siarra Harrington to score for Charleston.  With Karli Pinkerton on third, Haleigh Christopher singled to left field allowing Pinkerton to score giving the Golden Eagles the 4-0 lead. 

The Cardinals got the bats rolling in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single by Jackie Cramer sending Molly Welsh home for the 4-1 score. In the bottom of the sixth inning Welsh singled down the left field line sending Taylor DiPerna home. UC held on to win 4-2 improving to 2-6 in MEC play.

Charleston will face the Concord Mountain Lions on the road Thursday, March 29. first pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
