THE GAMES
GAME 1
The Yellow Jackets erupted for 11 runs in Friday's opener of the 4-game weekend series with the Golden Eagles. WVSU chased out previously conference unbeaten UC starter Adam Jafine after just three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. The hosts went on to plate five more runs over the next three innings on their way to an 11-0 game one victory over Charleston.
Ryan Hunt was 2-for-3 in the loss as the only bright spot in the sputtering Golden Eagle offense. Harrison Bell worked a scoreless sixth inning for UC without allowing a Yellow Jacket to reach base, the only time in Friday's opener. Colby Gainer went the distance for WVSU, tossing a six-hit shutout of UC.
GAME 2
Charleston scored the first five runs of Friday's second game, holding a 5-0 lead after three innings highlighted by a Jack Brunetti two-run double in the third. Charleston starter Jonathan Carr was cruising until the fourth inning when the Jackets evened the score at 5-5 after a five-run fourth. The score remained deadlocked at 5-5 until the sixth when WVSU's Trevor Sampson belted a solo homerun off UC reliever Jacob Kaiser to put the Jackets ahead 6-5 and ultimately a doubleheader sweep of the Golden Eagles.
