CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The No. 20 ranked Golden Eagles fell to the Glenville State Pioneers as the top two teams in the MEC clashed in the Waco Center, Saturday afternoon. Charleston took their first MEC loss this season after falling 88-78.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles shot a fair 41 percent in the first half, led by Raziyah Farrington with 17 points and four rebounds, but The Pioneers led by Donasja Scott with 10 points maintained their lead heading into the break, leading UC 30-33 at the half.
The Golden Eagles faced a three-point deficit heading into the second quarter down 17-13 after the first 10 minutes of play. Within the first minute of the second quarter the Pioneers increased their lead to eight points, but the duo of Farrington and senior forward Dionna Sanders picked away at the Glenville defense bringing the score within two points with five minutes to play in the half.
Charleston took a one point lead with three minutes to go, but were unable to hang on, and went to the locker room down by six.
The Golden Eagles came out swinging in the second half, quickly gaining a three-point lead in the opening two minutes of the half, but within a few possessions the Golden Eagles once again found themselves down 40-41. After two more lead changes the two teams went into the fourth quarter with the Golden Eagles down 51-56.
After four more lead changes in the final period Charleston would fall 88-78. Farrington and Sanders led the way in the second half as UC shot a solid 54 percent.
