UC To Play Frostburg and Fairmont This Weekend

CHARLESTON, W, Va. – The Golden Eagles will be back at home this weekend as they will match up against Frostburg State on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. and Fairmont State Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Frostburg State has made their way over to the MEC this year after playing the past nine seasons in the DIII Capital Athletic Conference. After making the jump to DII, the Bobcats have posted an 8-8 record overall with a 1-4 record in the MEC. They will enter the game this weekend coming off of their most recent win last Tuesday against Fairmont State, where they beat the Falcons three sets to one.

Following the game against the Bobcats, UC will turn around and play a match against the Falcons of Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles have not fared very well against the Falcons in the past, only winning one game against them back in 2011. Charleston has a 1-12 record against Fairmont overall. The Falcons have posted a 7-10 record this season and are 1-4 in MEC play. They also have not won a game on the road this year, as they have an 0-5 record when traveling to their oppositions court.

UC will look to stay hot as they are coming off of two consecutive wins last weekend against Glenville State College and Concord University. Their newly found production from freshman Jaxin Melby has helped to get the Golden Eagles back on track. She has posted six straight double-digit kill matches in her last six games and has helped jump-start the offense for the Golden Eagles. UC has also had plenty of production from seniors Janeese VerVelde, Kelsey Matusic and Sydney Burt. VerVelde has posted 54 kills in her past four matches, Matusic has recorded 81 digs in her last four matches and Burt has had 31 kills as well as 39 digs in her past four matches.
