HOW IT HAPPENED
35 minutes into play, Notre Dame was able to score the only goal of the match that they needed. After a deflection off of UC Midfielder
Liberty Goater sailed out of bounds, the ensuing throw-in for Notre Dame led Kazarie Kephart past the UC defense before her shot was blocked by Hensley. Soltis, who was able to recover the loose ball, followed up with a shot of her own that found the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
The second half remained quiet offensively, as solid defense from both teams led to a scoreless half and a 1-0 victory for Notre Dame. With the 1-0 victory for the Falcons, 11 of the last 14 contests between the two schools have now been decided by just one goal.
Up next, the Golden Eagles will return home to take on Urbana University (5-5-1, 5-3-1 MEC) on Wednesday at the Welch Athletic Complex with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
