Charleston Stifles Cardinals 51-12 on the Road

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Golden Eagles got off to an early start scoring three times before the close of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles kept rolling totaling 539 yards of total offense en route to a 51-12 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles opened up scoring with a 49-yard drive ending on a three-yard pass to Mike Strachan for the first score of the game. Brant Grisel, who threw for 207 yards, went to Strachan again on another short pass to bring the score to 13-0.
 
Freshman kicker, Tim McCutchen hit a 40-yard field goal to bring the score to 16-0 to end the first quarter.
 
The Golden Eagles would score on a six-yard run by Joe Street to extend their lead before the Cardinals drove the field and finally got on the board.
 
Charleston went into the break holding a 23-6 lead over their hosts.
 
After the kickoff, to start the second half, the Cardinals drove the ball 77 yards for their second and final touchdown of the game. Davidson caught a 61-yard pass from Strachan to score less than four minutes into the third quarter.
 
Mike Strachan would find the end zone on an 18-yard pass from Grisel halfway through the third quarter. With the score sitting at 30-12 Tyreik McAllister scored back-to-back touchdowns extending the UC lead to 44-12.
 
Charleston put the icing on the cake with 7:58 to go in regulation as Phillip Fleshman took the ball 16 yards to give the Golden Eagles the 51-12 lead.
 
Charleston's defense held the Cardinals to less than 300 yards total offense, led by Michael Perry with five tackles and 1.0 TFL, while Kenny Randall led the special teams with two blocked field goals.
 
UP NEXT

The Golden Eagles are back at home Saturday, October 12 to face the No. 5 Notre Dame Falcons for Military Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
