ATHENS, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Concord on Wednesday afternoon despite the Mountain Lions having to play a man down for the final 58 minutes of the match after an issued red card occurred on a foul just outside the penalty area.
After the UC penalty shot went over the net following the foul, the game remained tied at 0-0 before Concord scored just three minutes prior to halftime on a rebound goal from Elisha Robinson, sending the Mountain Lions into break with a 1-0 lead.
Concord would jump on the board again in the 75
th minute after an initial corner was cleared away by UC before finding Mountain Lion sophomore Leah Foster, who hit the right post for a goal past UC Goalkeeper
Kaylee Hensley Despite playing a man down, Concord went on to outshoot the Golden Eagles 21-7 for the game which left Hensley with eight saves on the day.
The Mountain Lions would add one more goal in the 87
th minute after Mira Kontio finished a goal into the top left corner of the net to comfortably secure the win for Concord. Charleston was led offensively by freshman
McKenna Sullivan, who had three of UC's four shots on net for the contest.
Charleston will hit the road to West Liberty on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
