CHAMPIONS: Charleston downs Notre Dame 4-0 for Second Straight MEC Tournament Title

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – After his stellar performance on Wednesday, it was Gabriel Rodriguez with the diving header to get the ball rolling for the Golden Eagles. Charleston went on to down the Falcons 4-0 in the MEC title game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles went on an 11-minute terror half way through the first half of play scoring three goals in the window. In the 24th minute of play, Eduardo Iranzo played a ball across the face of the goal, where it was met on the turf with the head of Gabriel Rodriguez, scoring is fourth consecutive goal in two games.
 
In the 34th minute, it was Willie N'Dah who finished a ball played by Christos Charalambous for the 2-0 lead, and less than 60 seconds later, it was Senior, Freddy Tracey from Ettore Ballestracci that closed out the first half of scoring for Charleston.
 
The Golden Eagles went into the break holding a 3-0 lead over the visiting Falcons.
 
Coming out of the break there would be 30 minutes before a goal was scored although the Golden Eagles kept the pressure on the Falcons, outshooting them 5-1 in the second half.
 
Finally, in the 81st minute, Alex Townley connected with Charalambous for the 4-0 lead.
 
Charleston would hold on to the shutout, while taking a 12-1 shot advantage in 90 minutes of play to win their second straight Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship.

The Golden Eagles will await the results of the 2019 Men's Soccer Selection show for their next opponent in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
