CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team (5-1, 1-1 MEC) defeated the Pioneers of Glenville State College (4-1, 1-1 MEC) 85-83 in a thriller on Tuesday Night at the Wehrle Innovation Center. The Golden Eagles capped off the contest with a game-winning steal that led to a driving layup from
Devon Robinson, who finished with his third double-double of the season, in the closing seconds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers jumped out to an early advantage before the Golden Eagles put together a 13-8 run with just over nine minutes left in the opening half to cut into the GSU lead, trailing 24-19. The Pioneers responded right away with a pair of three-pointers from Phill Bledsoe to extend their lead back to 30-19 with 8:00 left in the half.
Back and forth basketball allowed for the Golden Eagles to keep the game close until the Pioneers regained a 13-point lead, which would then be cut to eight at the half.
The Golden Eagles shot just under 50% from the floor in the first half, converting on a pair of three pointers while shooting 16-of-34 from the floor. Glenville State shot 53% from the floor, converting on 8-of-17 attempts from deep.
Charleston and Glenville State exchanged leads multiple times in the second half with UC holding a small advantage before the Pionners took an 83-81 lead with just over a minute remaining.
With the game tied at 83-83, The Pioneers would turn it over on a steal from Robinson who would regain the Golden Eagle lead 85-83 with two seconds remaining to seal the game.
UC shot just under 57% from the field and went 8-for-20 from deep after a 2-of-12 start led by a 6-of-8 effort from
Eddie Colbert III. The Golden Eagles were able to keep the Pioneers from dominating from behind the arc in the second half, allowing just three of ten attempts to find the bottom of the net.
