CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Golden Eagles women's basketball team were back at home this evening as they took on the Hilltoppers from West Liberty. Led by Senior Anna Hayton, UC went on to take the win 78-68 as Hayton reached a career milestone of 1,000 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC came out in the first quarter ready to play as they went 11-19 from the field and 2-4 from the charity stripe. West Liberty was 6-14 from the field and 1-5 on three-point attempts. UC took the lead at the end of the quarter as the Golden Eagles led the Hilltoppers 24-15.
Charleston kept the hot hand in the second quarter as they were 65 percent from the field going 9-14 with no three-point attempts. They added another four points to their total as they went 4-5 from the free-throw line. The Hilltoppers were 6-13 from the field and went 0-4 on three-point attempts. Charleston took the lead heading into the half as they led West Liberty 46-28.
As the teams came back out onto the court, there was a double technical on head coach Becky Burke as the second quarter came to an end, resulting in West Liberty having four shots from the free-throw line. The Hilltoppers proceeded to make all four of them making it a 46-32 game to kick off the third quarter. As the quarter went on, UC went 6-8 from the field and 3-6 on free-throws. West Liberty was 4-17 from the field and was 2-12 from beyond the arc. UC held onto the lead heading into the fourth quarter 61-42.
In the final quarter of the game, the Golden Eagles were 3-11 from the field and were 11-12 from the charity stripe. The Hilltoppers pressed hard but ultimately came up short as they went 6-14 from the field, 5-7 from three-point range and 9-10 from the free-throw line. UC went on to take the game 78-68.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Senior Anna Hayton surpassed a career milestone of 1,000 career points in the middle of the game as she went on to record 14 points, 10 rebounds and one block. Freshman Megan Haines had a career-high for points as she dropped 15 going 4-10 from the field and 7-9 on her free-throws.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 as they will travel to Wheeling University to take on the Cardinals.
