Colbert Leads Golden Eagles to 107-87 Defeat over Frostburg State

 
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team (6-2, 2-2 MEC) defeated the Bobcats of Frostburg State by a score of 107-87 on Saturday afternoon at the Wehrle Innovation Center. The Golden Eagles were led offensively by Eddie Colbert, who finished the game with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting, 15 rebounds, and 2 assists. Three other Golden Eagles including Devon Robinson, Lamont McManus, and Garrett Denbow all finished the game in double-digit scoring figures. The 107 points for Charleston was the most the team has scored since December 1, 2016 when they defeated Urbana 116-96.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With the score tied at 14 through the first six minutes of play, Charleston exploded on a 13-2 run over the next three minutes of play to take a 27-16 lead. The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the first half to as much as 23-points on a jump shot from Denbow, who scored a season-high in points with 53 seconds remaining. After back-and-forth possessions, Charleston would go into the half holding a 21-point lead.
 
Colbert finished the half with 14 points and six rebounds while the Golden Eagles received 13 and 10-point first-half performances from Robinson and McManus respectively. As a team, Charleston shot 23-of-37 (62.1%) in the half while converting 4-of-12 three-point attempts. Charleston held the opposition to 14-of-28 shooting (50.0%) while converting on two of eight attempts from behind the arc.
 
Over the first three and a half minutes of the second frame, the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 28 after putting together a 10-3 run. UC would extend their lead to as many as 37 points with 9:39 remaining as they held an 89-52 lead. Frostburg State would then claw their way back, forcing a handful of turnovers to put together a 35-14 run of their own over the final nine minutes of the contest to bring the score to 104-87 with under a minute remaining. The Golden Eagles would cap off the night with a three-pointer from Colbert to secure a 107-87 victory.

Charleston finished the game shooting 58.6% while converting 9-of-24 attempts from behind the arc. Despite converting 10 attempts from three, the Golden Eagles were able to hold the Frostburg offense to 49.2% shooting.
