CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles picked up a win over the visitors from Wheeling Jesuit (5-18), adding another win to their MEC record.

How it Happened
Charleston led from the start over the visiting Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit, as junior Drew Rackley gave the game the first points of the day. The Golden Eagles continued to work Wheeling's defense throughout the first half of play, going 15-29 from the field goal line, and 2-6 from the three-point line.
As the first half continued to go on, the Cardinals attempted to keep up with the intensity of the Golden Eagles. Charleston's 10 defensive rebounds helped to keep them ahead of Wheeling, as they led 34-27 with 1:30 left in the half. Junior Devon Robinson's layup gave UC a nine-point lead heading into the half 36-27 over the visitors.
The second half of play was led by a powerful push from Charleston's offense, after back to back layups from UC gave them a comfortable 42-32 lead with 17:18 left to play. The Cardinals weren't willing to give in quite yet, battling back to be within seven points of UC with 9:51 on the clock.
Charleston and Wheeling continued to battle back and forth, as Wheeling slowly tried to close the gap between themselves and UC. With a 70-68 lead with 2:30 left in the game, the Golden Eagles defense worked to keep the Cardinals from gaining the lead. The Golden Eagles were able to push through and hang on to the lead, winning the game 80-73.
