Golden Eagles Top Falcons 89-58

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston worked past the Fairmont State Falcons on Thursday night, defeating the visitors 89-58, and gaining another win on the season, with senior Raziyah Farrington setting a Division II record by going 16-16. The previous record for a perfect game was set by Liz Davies of Bryant in 1995.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles quickly bounced back from their West Liberty defeat, as they started off the first quarter against Fairmont State with energy, going up 20-1 with 2:35 left to play. The Golden Eagle's Raziyah Farrington gave UC 10 points in the first quarter, while Anna Hayton Snagged three rebounds. Charleston led 22-4 heading into the second quarter. Charleston went 8-15 from the field goal line, and 6-6 from the foul shot line. UC totaled 10 rebounds compared to Fairmont's six.
 
Heading into the second quarter with a 19-point lead, the Golden Eagles did not let up the pressure. Charleston continued to high press, forcing the visiting Falcons to turnover the ball five times. UC totaled 23 points compared to Fairmont's 10. Charleston was 100% successful from the three-point line, and picked up 20 rebounds over the Falcons' 11. The Golden Eagles led 45-14 going into halftime, working to add another win to their record.
 
Coming back from the half, both Charleston and Fairmont were filled with intensity. The Golden Eagles, however, used their skill and work ethic to outplay the visitors, outscoring them 29-26. UC was 80% successful from the field-goal line, 75% successful from the three-point line, and rebounded six balls. UC led 74-40 ending the third quarter of play.
 

 Charleston continued their quick offense and tight defense in the last 10 minutes of the game, outworking the visitors to take the win on the day. The Golden Eagles were able to keep the lead the entirety of the game, and were able to finish the game outscoring them by over 30 points, 89-58.
