Golden Eagles Pick Up Win on Senior Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston meant business on Saturday afternoon, as they used their offensive power to push past Shepherd on their senior day, winning 91-51.

How it Happened
The first 10 minutes of play were all Charleston, as they skillfully outplayed the visiting Rams both offensively and defensively. The Golden Eagles went up 22-4 with less than 4:00 left to play. UC continued to pressure Shepherd's offense, only allowing them to total 12 points heading into the second quarter. Charleston went 11-17 from the three-point line, and 1-4 from the three-point line. UC outworked the Rams on rebounds, totaling 10 compared to Shepherd's 10. Charleston's Brooklyn Pannell led in points with nine, and snagged two steals.
 
Charleston continued to work past the Rams in the second quarter of play, using Anna Hayton's shot precision to sink three three-pointers. The Golden Eagles scored 23 points in the second quarter compared to Shepherd's 16, and were 64.3% successful from the field-goal line. Senior Raziyah Farrington had a block for UC, giving them a 51-28 lead heading into half time.
 
The third quarter of the game was similar to the first half, as UC was able to push past Shepherd. Charleston grabbed 10 defensive rebounds in the third quarter, and three offensive rebounds. UC went 8-19 from the field-goal line, and 8-19 from the field-goal line. The Golden Eagles led 69-36 with the last quarter to play, staying on top the entirety of the game.
 
The Golden Eagle seniors used the last quarter of the game to say farewell to the Werhle Innovation Center Arena, as they picked up a big win. Charleston's tempo only got stronger as the game went on, as they totaled 22 points in the last quarter. Charleston finished the game 91-51, as the fans cheered on seniors Ambrea Williams, Aloneet Durden, Gracie Roberts, Raziyah Farrington, Dionna Sanders, and Malauna Campbell.
