CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles went 2-1 against the Post University Eagles. Game one was huge from the plate from both teams with a combined 36 runs. The Golden Eagles took a 23-13 loss in game one, but came back and took home a pair of victories on the second day of competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE:
Taylor Itnyer picked up his first loss of the 2019 season after pitching the final two innings of the game.
Colby Johnson led the charge for the Golden Eagles going 2-for-5 from the plate, with five RBIs. Johnson put the Golden Eagles on the board first with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Post took an 8-2 lead in the top of the third inning. The Golden Eagles found momentum in the bottom of the third when Jack Brunetti nailed a double to center field to bring UC within four runs of the Eagles.
In the bottom of the fourth, Johnson hit a 3 RBI double to bring the score to 8-7, and a wild pitch while sent Johnson home during the next at bat.
Charleston took and 11-9 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The game would see two more lead changes in by the bottom of the seventh where each team posted 13 runs, but the Golden Eagles were plagued with errors in the top of the eighth that put Post on top 21-13.
Post would score two final runs in the top of the ninth to seal the 23-13 victory.
GAME TWO:
Johnson led the Golden Eagles offense going 2-for-3 from the plate. The centerfielder also tabbed a stolen base in the effort.
Austin Henrich moved to 1-1 on the season with the 7-3 victory in game two for the Golden Eagles.
Charleston jumped to a 4-0 lead by the bottom of the second inning ending with a double by Jesse Elliott to give the Golden Eagles the four-run advantage.
Post would have a big fourth inning, with a home run by Rosario Missiti to bring the score to 4-2, and a wild pitch bringing Nicholas Gaston home to bring the score within one of UC. Charleston brought in three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory in game two.
GAME THREE:
Tyler Melko opened up the scoring for Post with a double to left field that would bring in Gastin for the 1-0 lead, but a sacrifice by Colby Johnson evened the score for UC in the bottom of the first.
Charleston took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third, and tabbed two more runs for a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Melko notched another RBI in the top of the sixth, bringing John Cartagena in with a single to centerfield.
The Golden Eagles would score their final run on the day on an error by the Post short stop, finally an error in the top of the seventh by UC's shortstop brought in the final run for Post, but it would not be enough to down Charleston who came away with the 6-3 win.

The Golden Eagles will host University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in a four-game series on March 1- March 2. First pitch is set for Friday at 1:00 p.m.
