CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles matched up against the Pioneers from Glenville State College on Saturday afternoon, as both teams battled to be the top team in the MEC. Charleston were unable to slip past the visitors, falling 108-97.

How it Happened
Glenville came out ready to play in the first quarter, pressuring Charleston defensively from the start. For the first five minutes of the quarter, Glenville ran the game, going up on UC by eight points. However, after a sub in from junior Madison Jones, the Golden Eagles' energy boosted and the score became closer. UC continued the tempo, ending the quarter behind the Pioneers by four, 22-18. Charleston was 53.8% successful from the field goal line, and went 4-4 from the free throw line. UC totaled 8 rebounds, and were 0-1 from the three-point line.
The second quarter of the game was a close battle between the Golden Eagles and the visiting Pioneers, as both teams fought to have the lead heading into the half. Charleston worked to take the lead with three minutes left in the quarter, but were unable to hold onto it, trailing 51-45 at the half. UC was 100% successful from the free throw line, and snagged 3 defensive rebounds.
Coming back from the half, the Golden Eagles began to fall behind the Pioneers, allowing the visitors to take a 10-point lead with less than two minutes to go. However, two back to back layups from seniors Gracie Roberts and Raziyah Farrington put Charleston back within reach, ending the quarter behind the visitors 81-75. Both teams scored 30 points this quarter, while UC went 13-21 from the field goal line.
The last quarter of play was a tight one, as the game continued to go back and forth between the Golden Eagles and the visiting Pioneers. However, Charleston was not able slip past their opponents, falling 108-97. UC scored three of their points off of fast breaks, and totaled seven rebounds in the fourth quarter.
