Golden Eagles Split Day One at PFX Tournament

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles went (1-1) on day one of the PFX Softball Tournament. Charleston downed Lock Haven in game 1 4-0, before falling 4-1 against Purdue Northwest in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
After Kendall Marshall tripped to right field in the top of the fourth inning, before Karli Pinkerton singled allowing Marshall to score giving UC the 1-0 lead.  With Pinkerton on third, Carly Turner singled to center field sending Pinkerton home.

Pinkterton was walked leading off in the sixth inning, putting her on first, before Haleigh Christopher homered to left center giving UC the 4-0 edge over Lock Haven.


Unable to get the offense going, Lock Haven fell to the Golden Eagles 4-0.

Freshman standout Carly Turner moved to 3-2 on the season after facing 29 batters, striking out 16.
 
GAME 2:
Purdue Northwest struck first scoring on a wild pitch to take the 1-0 edge. Amanda Noblett scored on a passed ball during the next at bat.
 
Kalyn Learnard doubled to left field pushing Heather O'Kelly home for the 3-0 lead.
 
Charleston got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Brionna Bowman hit a sac fly to center field pushing AJ Martin home for UC's lone run.


Learnard hit a singled in the top of the seventh giving O'Kelly the all-clear for the run home downing the Golden Eagles.


NEXT UP
Charleston will take on Merrimack College and Kutztown University on Tuesday March 12. First game is 9:30 a.m.
