Golden Eagles Fall Twice on Final Day of PFX Spring Games

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles went 0-2 at day three of the PFX Spring games falling to Northwood University 10-1, and then taking a loss to the University of Sioux Falls 14-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Carly Turner moved to 3-4 on the season. The freshman pitched 3.1 innings, but after Northwood packed on six runs, Mickaela Brown, and Leigh Ann Jenkins came in for relief.
 
Northwood jumped ahead on a home run by Torriya Gray-Baker in the second inning, followed by a double from Chase Schultz that pushed home two additional runs.
 
With the score 3-0 in favor of the Timberwolves, Destinee Miles homered putting the Golden Eagles on the board.
 
Northwood answered scoring seven more runs before the end of the fifth inning ending the game taking the 10-1 victory.
 
Shayna Frank pitched a complete game, facing 20 batters, retiring 15.

 
GAME 2:
USF came out hot from the plate scoring three runs in the first inning beginning with a homer from Emily Hove.
 
In the third inning, the Sioux Falls scored an astonishing 11 runs taking the 14-0 lead over Charleston. Neither teams' offense pushed home a run in the fourth.
 
Freshman Carly Turner homered in the bottom of the fifth to put UC on the board avoiding the shutout, but UC was unable to rally back from the 13-run advantage.
 
Kerrigan Hoshaw earned the win for USF pitching three innings, before Kaitlyn VanDerZwagg came in for relief for the final two innings.


NEXT UP
The Golden Eagles will travel to UVA-Wise on Saturday, March 16 for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
