HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Shannon Bennett got the Cavaliers going in the bottom of the second, tripling to right field sending Taylor Creasey home to give Wise the 1-0 lead.
Haleigh Christopher got UC started in a a big way, hitting a 3-run homer in the top of the third for the 3-1 lead, but Alexis Miles would also hit a homer to centerfield bringing the Cavaliers within one run of UC.
A homerun by Brionna Bowman, and a single by Rachel Rusch would tack on two more runs for UC in the top of the fifth for the Golden Eagles. UC would then take the 80-2 lead in the top of the sixth adding three more runs.
Taylor Creasy hit her second dinger of the game to cut the UC lead to five runs in the bottom of the sixth, but UC would seal the victory with five runs in the seventh for 13-3 win.
Freshman Carly Turner pitched all seven innings, seeing 31 batters, retiring 21. Turner moved to 4-5 on the season with the win.
GAME 2:
The Cavaliers took a 3-0 lead before the end of the fifth inning on a single by Lawson to right center, and error, and a single by Ava Hockey to center field.
Brionna bowman would come up big for the Golden Eagles in the top of the sixth, hitting a home run to center field, to bring the score to 3-2 still in favor of the Cavaliers, but Wise answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-2 victory.
Carly Lucas took her fourth loss of the year after pitching 2.1 innings before Mickaela Brown came in for relief. Raychel Lapallo took the win for the Cavaliers, pitching a complete game.
NEXT UP
The Golden Eagles will travel to Concord for their second MEC matchup of the weekend. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
