CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston capped off their 2018-19 regular season with a six-point, 78-72, victory over West Virginia State University on Saturday afternoon on the Yellow Jacket campus.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles overcame a seven-point, 18-11, deficit after the first quarter by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 28-13 in the second frame to hold a 39-31 lead going into the break. Anna Hayton was crucial to the Charleston comeback, posting 13 points and six rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action. UC started the second quarter outscoring WVSU 26-10 take their largest lead of the first half at 37-28 following a Brooklyn Pannell layup before settling for the eight-point halftime advantage.
Charleston extended their lead to as many as 16 points, 58-42, at the three-minute mark of the third quarter after a Raziyah Farrington jumper, two of her game-high 22 points. With UC leading by 10, 61-51, entering the fourth the Yellow Jackets fought their way back into the contest to trail by five with just over a minute to play. Charleston weathered the WVSU rally over the final stretch to sweep the regular season series with the Jackets, taking the second game of the series 78-72.
With the win, Charleston improved to 23-5, 18-4 MEC and will enter next week's MEC Tournament as the #2 seed and awaits the winner of Wednesday' First Round game between #7 Fairmont State and #10 W.Va. Wesleyan.
