Golden Eagles Swept by Hilltoppers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty Hilltoppers (12-9, 6-0 MEC) continued their nine-game win streak as the Golden Eagles (8-12, 1-5 MEC) fell in two games on Saturday afternoon, moving to 1-5 in MEC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
West Liberty took an early three-run lead in the top of the third inning, with the bases loaded, Katie Beeman singled advancing on the throw allowing all three runners to score for WLU.
 
Carly Turner hit a SAC fly in the bottom of the fourth allowing Janey Schmidt to score for UC, cutting the WLU lead to a pair of runs.
 
The Hilltoppers sealed their 4-1 win with a run from Kaitlyn Stress on Allie Cook's single to right field.
 
Carly Turner picked up the loss in game one.
 
GAME 2:
Mickaela Brown picked up the loss as the Golden Eagles fell in game two, 6-2.

The Hilltopper offense surged in the top of the third inning just as in game one, as WLU jumped ahead five runs. The extended their lead to six runs in the top of the fifth as Skylar Bogan scored on an error by the UC catcher for the 6-0 lead.
 
Charleston scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by Kendall Marshall, to send Destinee Miles home. Karli Pinkerton scored later in the inning was Brionna Bowman was walked by the WLU pitcher.

NEXT UP
The Golden Eagles will host the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Sunday in a double header set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
