CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (10-13, 3-5 MEC) improved to 3-5 in MEC play after a clean sweep of the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals (6-20, 3-5 MEC) on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Carly Turner picked up the win in game one. The freshman pitched all seven innings, facing 25 batters, and retiring 14.
With Karli Pinkerton on second base, Kendall Marshall singled to left field sending Pinkerton home for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Janey Schmidt scored on a single from Destinee Miles giving UC the 2-0 lead.
Finally, in the bottom of the sixth the Golden Eagles sealed their 3-0 victory as AJ Martin scored on an error by the Jesuit short stop.
GAME 2:
The Golden Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Brynna Teal scored on Alex Thomas' single, followed by a run scored by Janey Schmidt.
The Cardinals answered in the top of the third with a pair of runs tying the game up at 2-2.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the sixth with Rienna Schriner scoring on a single by Sarah Barrett.
Carly Lucas picked up the win in UC's first conference sweep of the 2019 season.
NEXT UP
Charleston will travel to Beckley on Tuesday to take on West Virginia Tech in a double header set for 3:00 p.m.
