Two Golden Eagles Named First Team All-MEC

Farrington and Hayton Honored

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- University of Charleston's Raziyah Farrington and Anna Hayton were named All Mountain East Conference First Team as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

West Liberty's Marissa Brown has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Year, while Glenville State's Re'Shawna Stone was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year and Kim Stephens was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.

The league also announced the 2018-19 all-conference teams. The first team had eight players from six different schools highlighted by Brown, who along with Notre Dame's Siena Adachi, was a repeat first team selection. Brown was joined on the first team by teammate Taylor Johnson, and Charleston was represented on the first team with the duo of Raziyah Farrington and Anna Hayton. Fairmont State's Sierra Kotchman, Concord's Madison May and Glenville State's Emily Stoller rounded out the first team.

Storming onto the scene this year was Senior guard Raziyah Farrington, who grabbed league coaches attention for her ability to score at will. The Chapel Hill native earned first-team All-MEC honors with her performance this season.  Farrington has started in 27-of-28 games this season, and leads the Golden Eagles scoring effort with 632 points this season.  She leads the team in scoring 22.6 ppg, and is second on the team in assists with 77 on the season. 
 
Rounding out the Golden Eagles awards is junior forward, Anna Hayton, who has been a pivital member of the Golden Eagles lineup the past three seasons. The Parkersburg native has started in all 28 games for the Golden Eagles this year, and averages 31.7 minutes per game. Hayton averages 14.7 ppg (15 ppg in conference play), and brings down an average 7.8 rebounds per game. Her performance this season has also earned her first team honors. 


The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
