CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (20-17, 11-9 MEC) moved to 22-17 on the season with the sweep of the Salem University Tigers (8-28) on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Haleigh Christopher tallied three RBI to lead the Golden Eagles, the junior went 1-for-3 from the plate. Kendall Marshall sent in two runs while, four other Golden Eagles each tallied RBI in the win.
In the top of the first the Tigers jumped to an early 2-0 lead after a series of UC fielding errors. Karli Pinkerton scored UC's first run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice from second basemen Kendall Marshall.
Down 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Carly Turner hit a double to center field giving Bailey Gogia the go-ahead for the tying run. Charleston then went on a 7-0 run that ended with a 2 RBI homer from Haleigh Christopher.
With the 9-2 lead heading into the final inning the Golden Eagles allowed three more runs to score for the tigers, but it would not be enough to surpass UC who took the 9-5 victory.
Seven Tigers tallied hits in the loss, with Decker leading the charge, notching one hit, one RBI, and scoring two runs for Salem.
Carly Turner picked up win number 12 on the season after pitching all seven innings for the Golden Eagles.
GAME 2:
Carly Lucas moved to 7-6 on the season with the complete game shutout for the Golden Eagles. The junior struck out two batters while retiring 17-of-26 batters in the win.
Sarah Barrett knocked in three runs for the Golden Eagles on two hits, while freshman right fielder Brionna Bowman went a career best 4-for-4 from the plate scoring two runs and tallying two RBI.
Barrett's 2-RBI single in the bottom of the second got the Golden Eagles off to a 2-0 lead. Charleston knocked in three more runs in the bottom of the third for the 5-0 lead.
Destinee Miles, and Sarah Barrett each singled in the bottom of the fifth to bring in two runs for the 7-0 lead.
Brionna Bowman concluded the four hit performance with a double to left center in the bottom of the sixth that drove in the final run for UC, ending game two.
NEXT UP
Charleston will travel to South Euclid, Ohio to take on the Falcons of Notre Dame on Saturday. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
