Charleston Sweeps Falcons in MEC Action

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –  The Golden Eagles picked up the sweep of the Notre Dame Falcons on Saturday. Haleigh Christopher hit her 12th home run of the season to seal the extra inning victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Haleigh Christopher got the ball rolling for the Golden Eagles with a two-run homer to right field. Freshman right fielder Brionna Bowman then doubled to left center to bring home Carly Turner for the 3-0 lead. The freshman led the Golden Eagles offensively knocking in three runs.
 
The Golden Eagles scored nine runs as six Golden Eagles tallied RBIs to take a 12-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Alyssa Larson singled in the bottom of the fifth to score Ariel Linberger for the Falcons lone run of the game.
 
McKenzie Zigont took the loss after 4.1 innings, after allowing eight runs, before Morgan Sullivan took the mound.
 
Carly tuner nearly not the complete game shutout for UC, but took the win after five innings pitched and allowing five hits.
 
GAME 2:
Brionna Bowman tripled to right center to start the Golden Eagles off, scoring Janey Schmidt for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, until Ariel Lingberger homered to left field to cut the UC lead to one run. Notre dame would tie the game up in the fourth inning, and then take a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Singles from Miles and Pinkerton allowed runs to score in the top of the sixth to give UC the 4-3 lead, but the Golden Eagles gave up a homer in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
 
In the top of the ninth inning UC took the 5-4 lead as Pinkerton reached on a fielder's choice. Christopher sealed the victory for the Golden Eagles with a three-run homer to right center. This would tie her freshman year record of 12 home runs in a season.
Carly Turner closed for UC picking up the win after 2.2 innings, moving to 14 wins this season.

NEXT UP
Charleston will travel to Urbana, Ohio on Tuesday, April 16 for a double header set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
