CHARLESTON, W.Va -- The Mountain East No. 1 total defense of 2018 had another day in the spotlight. The University of Charleston Golden Eagles saw three members of their studded defense signed to NFL teams on the final day of the 2019 draft. John Cominsky becomes the first (third overall) Golden Eagle drafted since Charley Hubbard went in the 27
th round in 1951. Sparky Adams was the first player drafted in 1943 when the school carried the Morris Harvey name.
Two other Golden Eagles were picked before the day's end. The all-time career sack leader, Kahzin Daniels signed as an undrafted free-agent to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just minutes after the final pick of the draft was made, while senior defensive back Jonte Pooler rounded out the prospects for UC with a rookie mini-camp invite from the Cleveland Browns.

Cominsky, a native of Barberton, Ohio went pick No. 135 overall. The two-year unanimous team captain, tallied 218 tackles, 48.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, and four forced fumbles during his career as a Golden Eagle. Cominsky was a leader on the field, locker room, and classroom, boasting a 3.9 GPA earning Academic All-American honors. The 2018 MEC defensive player of the year was a two-time first team all-MEC honoree, first-team All-Atlantic region, and a D2football All-American honoree.

Playing opposite Cominsky, Kahzin Daniels will head to camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Daniels is the current all-time sack leader for the Golden Eagles with 35.5 in his career. The Newark native notched 168 tackles, 62 TFL, and two forced fumbles as a Golden Eagles, earning second team, and first team All-MEC honors during his career.
Daniels recently caught the attention of the NFL Network with the 360 special, "
Going to Mars". The special focused in on Daniels talent, despite being completely blind in one eye. His story reached a young man in Charleston named Zane, who is losing his vision during the birth of his young athletic career. "
Going to Mars" took a look at the relationship the two have built, and their ability to overcome their disabilities to reach their goals.

The final NFL prospect earning a chance with the Cleveland Browns comes in Jonte Pooler, a native of Akron, Ohio. Pooler finished his career with 113 tackles, 35 pass breakups, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, and five TFL. Pooler earned second team All-MEC honors in 2018.
