Golden Eagles Pick up Split with Rams

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston Softball picked up a split with the north leading, Shepherd Rams. Charleston downed the Rams in game one, in the eighth inning. However, the Rams, led by Taylor Stocks on the mound took game two from the Golden Eagles 9-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Karli Pinkerton led the Golden Eagles, going 3-for-4 from the plate, but it was Bailey Gogia and Brionna Bowman who knocked in a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles victory.
 
In the top of the fourth Gogia doubled to right center giving Kendall Marshall the go ahead to put UC up 1-0.
 
Leann Brown took an out in the bottom of the sixth, allowing Gilligan to cross the plate to tie the game up 1-1.
 
In the top of the eighth Brionna Bowman grounded out to the second baseman, but Karli Pinkerton was able to score, giving UC the 2-1 victory.
 
Carly Turner moved to 18-8 on the season after allowing one run on five hits, pitching all 8.0 innings.
 
GAME 2:
The Rams struck first on a two-run double from sophomore second baseman Leanne Brown in the first inning of game two to take a 2-0 lead. The Rams added a run in the second on an RBI-single from freshman third baseman Nicole Purtell in the bottom of the second.
 
Shepherd tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double from Brown to end the surge.
 
Charleston got on the board in the fifth on an RBI-single by Karli Pinkerton.
 
Purtell sat on first in the top of the sixth after a single and scored on a triple off the bat of senior first baseman Conner Gilligan take the victory by way of run rule.
 
Junior pitcher Taylor Stocks gained the win for the Rams, while Carlee Lucas (10-7) took the loss.

NEXT UP
Charleston end the regular season with a double header against the Fairmont State Falcons on Sunday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
