Golden Eagles Sweep Pioneers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –  The Golden Eagles (19-16, 10-8 MEC) swept the Glenville State Pioneers (9-25, 2-14 MEC) on Sunday, going 3-1 on the weekend, and improving to 10-8 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Carly Turner notched her 11th win of the season after pitching all seven innings for the Golden Eagles. She allowed eight hits, and tallied 10 strikeouts in the win.
 
Miles, Gogia, and Sarrett each tallied two hits in the win, while Kendall Marshall led with two RBI. Five other Golden Eagles knocked in runs in the win.

Tori Ward took the loss for the Pioneers, after allowing six runs in 1.1 innings before handing the ball off to Celina Maberto who finished 5.1 innings only allowing one run to score.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped to a 7-0 lead scoring six of their seven runs in the top of the second, before a single from Ward put the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the innig.
 
Glenville scratched in three more runs before the fifth inning, but couldn't get their offense rolling enough to down the Golden Eagles.
 
GAME 2:
Mickaela Brown came in to relieve Lucas after less than an inning passed, to take her first win of the season. Brown pitched 6.1 innings, striking out three batters.
 
Kowach, Bowman, and Miles knocked in a combined six runs for UC, while four other Golden Eagles tallied an RBI in the victory.
 
Haleigh Christopher started UC of sending Carly Turner home on a double in the top of the first.
 
The Pioneers' offense surged in the bottom of the first has the GSC took a 4-1 lead after Mays hit a 3 RBI homer to left field.
.
The Golden Eagles answered going on a 9-0 run to take a 10-4 lead in the top of the sixth after Destinee Miles home run.
 
GSC scored one final run in the bottom of the seventh bringing the final score to 10-5

NEXT UP
Charleston will travel to Institute on Wednesday to take on their cross-town rivals at West Virginia State.
