Charleston Wins in Thrilling Fashion, Down Falcons in Extra Innings

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles took the victory against the Notre Dame Falcons in entertaining fashion on Friday night. Down by two runs through eight innings the Golden Eagles tied it up forcing extra innings. Once again, a walk off single boosted UC over their opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the bottom of the 10th inning with runners on second and third, Jesse Elliot came off the bench to hit a 2-RBI single giving the Golden Eagles the stunning victory after being behind for eight innings.
 
The Golden Eagles will remain in the winner's bracket, to face the Shepherd Rams on Saturday morning.

Gianfranco Morello drove in three runs on three hits, while scoring a run to lead the Golden Eagles. The fifth-year senior finished with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Jesse Elliot's heroics in extra innings boosted UC over the Falcons as the third basemen went 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Brandon Harris took the mound first for the Golden Eagles. The senior pitched 9.0 innings tallying seven strikeouts and retiring 28 of 37 batters in the contest. The closer, Jordan Peck got his first win of the season after pitching the 10th inning for UC, getting three quick outs in the top of the inning.

The Falcons reliever, Todd Marshall took the loss after 2.1 innings, he passed the ball onto Kenny Pierson after allowing the tying runs to get on base.

Zach Santoro went 2-for-5, with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Falcons while Joseph Paskell, and Nick Farrell tabbed an RBI each.

In the top of the first Santoro homered to left field, giving the early 1-0 lead to the Falcons. Notre Dame brought the score to 2-0 in the top of the third as Paskell scored on a single from Farrell.
 
Morello came up big for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the eighth, with a 2-run triple that would bring home the tying run for UC.

Notre Dame took the lead again, scoring two runs in the top of the 10th to take the 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
 
With Derek Dudek on third, and Morello on second, Elliot came off the bench with one out, and hit a 2-RBI single to left field that drove in the winning run for the Golden Eagles second walk-off victory of the tournament.
 
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles will face the Shepherd University Rams on Day three of the MEC tournament in a 10:00 a.m. matchup Saturday morning.
