CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles split the final two games of the four-game series with the Yellow Jackets on Sunday, giving the Golden Eagles the 3-1 record against the Yellow Jackets to close the 2019 regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
The Golden Eagles posted an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, but a homer from Andrew Stone in the bottom of the third brought the Yellow Jackets within two runs of the Golden Eagles.
WVSU tied the game up on a series of UC errors in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 4-4 to close the frame.
Jordan Bailey gave UC the 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth with a double that scored Drew Hefner. A pair of two-run homers from the Jackets in the bottom of the sixth lifted State over the Golden Eagles in game one.
Austin Hathaway led UC, going 3-for-3 from the plate, with one RBI and one run scored, while Jordan Bailey tacked on two-RBI for UC.
Jordan Peck took the loss after 1.2 innings before handing the ball off to Jacob Kaiser to close for the Golden Eagles.
GAME 2:
Jack Brunetti moved to 9-1 on the season, after getting the complete game victory in game two. The senior, only allowed five hits, and two runs, while tallying six strikeouts.
Brunetti and Hayden Cartt each tallied two hits to lead the Golden Eagles, while Cartt and Dudek accounted for three RBI for UC.
WVSU took and early 2-0 lead on two hits, but a home run by Hayden Cartt brought UC within a run.
Down two runs in the top of the seventh Derek Dudek scored Austin Hathaway and Brunetti on a single to center field to take the 3-2 lead. With two runners on in the seventh, Dudek stole home giving UC the 4-2 lead, and the victory in game four.

The Golden Eagles will head to Beckley, W.Va. to compete in the 2019 Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament.
