Cominsky Named MEC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's John Cominsky has been named as the Mountain East Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2018-19. Cominsky was selected as the winner after the finalists were announced last week.

Cominsky was the MEC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-America honors after leading Charleston with 67 tackles, including 16.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. The two-time first-team All-MEC selection also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors after maintaining a 3.98 grade-point average with a double major in chemistry and biology. He was a member of the Dean's List from 2014-16, and then on the Provost's List (4.0) in 2017 and 2018.

Cominsky became the first player in MEC history to be drafted after he was taken in the fourth round by the Atlanta Falcons.

The MEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
