The UC Golden Eagles Women's Soccer team dropped their MEC Opener on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Senators of Davis & Elkins 1-0. The lone goal scored by Asheli Freed with just under 17 minutes remaining in the first half was all the Senators needed to win their first match as a member of the Mountain East Conference. Freed, who leads D&E with three goals, has now scored in each game for the Senators this season.

Solid defense on both sides of the ball kept the game scoreless through the first 30 minutes of play before a set piece sent down field by Samantha Cozzolino set up midfielder Asheli Freed in front of the goal before sending a shot past UC Goalkeeper Kaylee Hensley to the upper left-hand corner of the net. Despite having seven corner kick attempts, Charleston was unable to score on six shots in the second half as the Golden Eagles drop to 2-3-0 on the season.
 
Charleston returns home on Sunday to matchup against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Welch Athletic Complex.
