JUST THE BASICS:
Score: Charleston 1, Wesleyan 0
Location: Charleston, W.Va.
Records: Charleston (3-3-0, 1-1 MEC), Wesleyan (1-3-0, 1-1 MEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Following a 1-0 loss on the road to Davis & Elkins on Thursday in which both sides used pressuring defense to limit the offensive attack, Charleston came out on top today following a similar style of play which included a lot of early pressure as Hill was able to get four shots on goal in the first 25 minutes of the game. UC was able to execute on one of their ten shots taken during the match after Hill was able to drive in towards the net before finishing with a shot into the upper-left hand corner of the net.
For the remainder of the 75 minutes to play, good defense by both sides kept the ball out of the offensive zones. Wesleyan was able to put up nine shots, four on net for UC Goalkeeper
Kaylee Hensley who finished the game with four saves. The sophomore recorded her third solo shutout as a Golden Eagle.
Wesleyan made things interesting with under 30-seconds remaining in the contest as they were able to bring the ball into their offensive zone and put a shot on net. After the ball hit the crossbar and bounced down in front of Hensley, UC was able to recover the ball and run out the clock to hand the Bobcats their first MEC loss since a 1-0 defeat to Notre Dame on October 22, 2017.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on Glenville State with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Sunday to host Concord.
