Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Coming off a 1-0 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday that marked the Golden Eagles first win against the Bobcats since 2016, UC moved to 2-1 in Mountain East play with a Thursday evening win over Glenville State. The game remained scoreless at the half despite eight shots from the Golden Eagles who were able to contain the Pioneers by not allowing a shot in the half.
Â
Nearly 15 minutes into the second half is when UC found their way on the board after a ball deep in the Golden Eagle offensive zone foundÂ
Keira Hill who passed it off to Demps for the Charleston score. The goal marked the third of her career for Demps with the Golden Eagles. The half remained quiet for the Pioneers, as they produced just two shots, none of which found UC Goalkeeper
Kaylee Hensley who recorded her fourth career solo shutout. It was the first time since September 20
th of the 2018 campaign against Shepherd that the Golden Eagles defense did not allow a shot on goal.
Â
After coming off the bench in the 64
th minute for the Golden Eagles, Speight was able to score her first career goal in the 72
nd minute after being fed a pass from Sullivan who then found herself one-on-one with the Glenville State Goalkeeper Morgan Smailes to give UC a 2-0 lead.
Â
In the 84
th minute, Sullivan carried the ball 35-yards out before rifling a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net to put UC ahead 3-0. The goal was Sullivan's third of the season, leading all UC scorers on the season.
Â
Overall, the Golden Eagles were able to put 22 shots up against the Pioneers, the most since October 2018 when they shot the ball 34 times in a 5-0 win also against Glenville State.
Â
Charleston will return home on Sunday to face MEC foe Concord with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Welch Athletic Complex.
