HOW IT HAPPENED:
Coming off a 3-0 win against Glenville State on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles were unable to get past a stealthy Concord defense who played a preventive style of defense throughout the duration of the game. Early on, Charleston missed out on three key opportunities to score as Midfielder
Keira Hill produced three shots for Charleston in the first 20 minutes of the contest with one on net for CU Goalkeeper Katie Maher. After a defensive adjustment, Concord dominated the time of possession for the remainder of the first half and the majority of the second as they were awarded nine corner kicks throughout the contest.
Â
The Mountain Lion's first goal of the match came in the 16
th minute after Leah Foster was fed a pass from Zoe Belding that led her to a one-on-one opportunity with UC Goalkeeper
Kaylee Hensley before finishing past Hensley into the right side of the net for her fifth goal of the season. The remainder of the half was quiet until Olivia Medieros was able to give Concord a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 42
nd minute.
Â
Charleston's defense stepped up in the second half as they held Concord scoreless despite controlling the ball in their offensive zone for nearly 27% of the game. Overall, UC produced eight shots (two on net) with Hill leading the way with six. Concord ended the contest with ten shots, four finding the net for Hensley who finished the game with two saves.
Â
The Golden Eagles will return to action a week from today as they host Glenville State who fell to Davis & Elkins 1-0 today in overtime and are set to travel to Concord on Thursday. Kickoff for Sunday's home contest is set for 7:00 p.m.
