Box Score CHICAGO, IL – The Golden Eagles traveled out to Chicago this afternoon for a match with the No. 15 ranked Ramblers from Loyola University Chicago. The Ramblers won the match by a score of 3-1 over the Golden Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first set leading the Ramblers by a score of 7-3 as they had the offense going early. Loyola was able to come back and take the lead 8-7 after rattling off five straight points. Loyola was able to gain some momentum heading into the latter portion of the set capitalizing on some key swings and from Charleston errors. UC had 11 kills, one ace and one block in the set. The Ramblers had seven kills, four aces and one block. Despite having an advantage in kills, Charleston was unable to hang on to the lead as UC dropped the set by a score of 20-25.
In the second set, things were close throughout as the score was tied at 15 all in a back and forth set. Each team could not seem to control the momentum as each team seemed to keep exchanging blows. Loyola was able to get rolling towards the end of the set as they strung together multiple runs of points putting the set out of reach for the Golden Eagles. UC had 10 kills, zero blocks and zero aces. The Ramblers had 12 kills, one ace and one block in the set. Charleston could not keep up with Loyola in the latter portion of the set as the Ramblers would go on to take the set by a score of 25-18.
The third set resembled much of the second as both teams took turns exchanging blows tying the score multiple times throughout the set. The set was close throughout as it was even at 23 with a total of 19 tie scores within the set. UC was able to string two points together at the very end to force the game into a fourth set. UC had 17 kills, zero aces and two blocks. The Ramblers had 12 kills, one ace and three blocks. Charleston took the set by a score of 25-23.
Charleston had to carry their momentum from the previous set over to the fourth to keep their hopes alive. They managed to take a 7-5 lead early on forcing the Ramblers to take a timeout. Proceeding the timeout, Loyola came back to take four straight points to make the score 9-7 Ramblers forcing UC to take a timeout of their own. UC was able to take a point to make the score 9-8 Loyola. Charleston then proceeded to give up three points to the Ramblers bringing the set to a score of 12-8. Loyola began to gain some momentum widening the score to 16-11 Ramblers. UC could not match Loyola in the end as the Ramblers took off and won the set by a score of 25-17. UC had eight kills, two aces and two blocks. Loyola put together 13 kills, five aces and zero blocks in the set.

Maarten Bartels put together 14 kills and a .321 hitting percentage in his first game back from being injured. Sophomore
Lachlan Bray had nine kills and two block assists in the match. Sophomore
Diego Villafane had 38 assists in the match.
