WILSON, N.C. – The Golden Eagles swept the Barton College Bulldogs to improve to 4-0 in the opening weekend of the 2020 season. With the wins, freshman pitcher, Dani Bauer moved to 3-0 to start her freshman campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Freshman, Emma Groe opened up scoring for the Golden Eagles in the top of the fourth, with a homer to left center. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the fifth on a single from E. Bell that scored M. Nash to tie the game at one run a piece.
 
After three scoreless innings it was again Groe who singled to second base, allowing Karli Pinkerton, and Janey Schmidt to score giving the Golden Eagles the 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning Barton answered with a pair of runs tying the game up again at 3-3.
 
The teams each scored two runs in the ninth inning, heading into the tenth tied 9-9. In the top of the tenth inning, Alyssa Lake hit a three-run homer to left field also scoring Groe and Pinkerton. The Bulldogs sent one more run across Homeplate in the bottom of the tenth, but the Golden Eagles came away with the 8-6 victory.
 
Charleston was led in game one by Emma Groe who went 3-for-3 with one homer run and three RBI.
 
Bauer pitched all 10.0 innings for the Golden Eagles picking up her third win of the season.

 
GAME 2:
The Golden Eagles set the tone in game two, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before the Bulldogs sent Nash home for the 3-1 score in the bottom of the third.
 
Charleston answered in the top of the second on balls from Groe and Megan Eder that sent home two additional runs to maintain the 5-1 lead. The Golden Eagles made the score 6-1 in the top of the third as Pinkerton was out on her way to second base, allowing A.J. Martin to score for the Golden Eagles.
 
Finally, with Miles in scoring position, Allysa Lake singled sending Miles home for the 7-1 victory in the top of the sixth.

Charleston will head to Glenville State College on Saturday for a round robin tournament.
